Location: New York, NY
New York based importer of branded European ladies’ apparel seeks a controller to fulfill a diverse
array of financial responsibilities. The controller will report directly to the CEO, manage the corporate accounting team, and be responsible for supervising and directing all general accounting. A CPA is not required for this position but is preferable, as is a combination of public and private accounting experience. The ideal candidate will have worked in a controller capacity within the fashion retail or wholesale industry.
Responsibilities include:
- Month end close.
- Cash reporting.
- Accurate and timely flow of financial information.
- Preparation of financial statements.
- Gross profit and expense analysis.
- Management reporting and commentary.
- Bank reconciliations.
- Supervision of accounts receivable.
- Assist in the development, documentation, and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.
- Facilitate and provide support for year-end, interim and other audit work, as required.
- Manage factor accounts in US and Canada and communicate with factors’ representatives.
- Manage multiple multicurrency bank accounts and oversee all currency transfers.
Requirements include:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting. MBA is a plus.
- CPA preferred but not essential.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in corporate accounting.
- Minimum 5 years of direct supervision of staff.
- Superior analytical skills.
- Ability to function autonomously in a leadership position.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong PC and software skills.
- Maturity, diligence, professionalism, and unimpeachable ethics.
