 About the Organization:

The Microcredit Summit Campaign is a global anti-poverty campaign pursuing two goals: 1) to reach and empower 175 million of the world’s poorest families with microfinance, and 2) to help 100 million families lift themselves out of severe poverty. The Campaign is currently seeking a highly motivated, skilled intern to support our program work in support of these two goals.

About the Job:
The program intern will provide crucial support to a broad range of Campaign activities and be exposed to the daily work of a fast-paced NGO with a global network of allies and partners. The intern will learn the importance of timely and impactful advocacy, the ability to interweave coinciding project initiatives, and the vital role of coalition-building in pursuit of common goals.

The program intern will work closely with program managers for the main campaign projects and will have an opportunity to contribute substantively to the 2013 Summit, the 100 Million Project and the Health and Microfinance Alliance. The intern will also have the opportunity to attend various microfinance and international development events in the DC area during the internship. Tasks and Responsibilities:
Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:


  •     Researching and helping to develop the 100 Million Project’s (our program focused on Goal 2) global learning agenda
  •     Researching and drafting the Health and Microfinance Alliance’s annual newsletter
  •     Supporting planning and marketing for our 2013 Summit
  •     Assisting with outreach to microfinance networks and microfinance institutions around the world to collect data and increase coverage of the release of our 2014 State of the Campaign Report
  •     Conducting prospect research to identify funding leads for various Campaign programs
  •     Assist in translation
  •     Other tasks as assigned by Program Managers

Qualifications:

  •     Candidates must be able to commit a minimum of 32 hours per week for a minimum of four months.  Preference will be given to those who can commit to 40 hours per week and six months.
  •     Proficient spoken and written English and Spanish/French required.
  •     Candidates should be highly motivated self-starters with a passion for international development, and particularly for reaching and empowering the very poor.
  •     Candidates do NOT have to currently be enrolled in an academic program.
